Three months ago, we had an addition to our family. A son was born, happy and healthy, here in Shanghai. It’s been an experience trying to figure out fatherhood, a new baby, and everything that entails while being abroad.
Our families visited during the first month but since then, it’s just been us. The amazing part is watching this woman I fell in love with transition into an incredible, loving mother. Not that I didn’t expect it, but it’s lovely to watch in real-time.
We have made numerous friends along the way that are experiencing this new world with us.
It’s funny, how you look at these new friends with new babies. The ones that delivered before us, we look at as geniuses that have been through it all already and we’re just idiots barely figuring it out. Then the friends who’ve had their babies after us, they look to us for advice and information and we’re the learned, experienced ones.
Our son now has his passport and his Chinese visa, ready to begin traveling. Our first trip is in a few weeks, to Amsterdam. Let’s see how flying with a baby goes.
